Our three-day King’s Retreat tour serves as a delightful sampler of our extended alentejo wine country tour, castles & vines. we’ve designed a shorter version featuring the UNESCO city of Évora, and taking you through rows of olive orchards, golden wheat fields and the occasional tractor crossing! When time is an issue, these tours work perfectly for fitting onto the begging, middle, or ending of your extended visit to Portugal. The best part is, they are available year round!

Day 1 | Arraiolos

This moderate route begins in Montemor-o-Novo and takes you along rows of cork trees and charming white & blue houses. Spend the first night at a lovely Portuguese Vila, or the fabulous Convento of Arraiolos, a blue and white pastel village known for its traditional tapestries. (Apr. 20 or 30 miles)

Day 2 | Évora

Day 2 takes you across Portugal’s olive country to the city of Évora, UNESCO city and pearl of the Alentejo. After a traditional picnic lunch, visit a pre-historic cromlech formation, then spend the afternoon wandering the shady streets of this picturesque Alentejan city. Search for hand painted pottery, visit the Chapel of Bones, Roman temple of Diana, or just enjoy a cool drink in the Praça do Giraldo and catch up on your people watching. (Apr. 15 or 30 miles)

Day 3 | Monsaraz

See the Tuscany of Portugal up close and personal. You’ll ride along a secret path to the ancient village of Monsaraz, a true city in the clouds. Visit the artisan shop of Mizette, sample some regional pastries, and explore the bullring at the end of town. We’ll end with a wine tasting at a well known, local producer before transport back. (Apr. 18 or 38 miles)
